John Kappas, Ph.D., conceded that
treating a client who has schizophrenia is a touchy legal issue in that
schizophrenia is a medical and psychological illness which is out of scope for
hypnotherapy. “You can spend all your time trying to cure the condition and it
won’t work,” the founder of the Hypnosis
Motivation Institute told his hypnotherapy students. Indeed, many
physicians accept that schizophrenia is based on a neurochemical imbalance. Medication
can help control the symptoms but psychotherapy won’t “cure” the person, he said.
The Business and Professions Code 2908*
allows hypnotherapists to provide complementary and alternative health care to
these patients if they have a
referral from a licensed medical or mental-health professional. However, people
who have schizophrenia generally don’t come in for help in the first place, Dr.
Kappas said. However, those individuals who do allow themselves to be
hypnotized to deal with other issues in their lives may show good results in
terms of behavioral correction, he said.
The hypnotherapist found that many individuals who have schizophrenia also
had low
blood-sugar levels, which can induce hyper-suggestibility and paranoia. Dr.
Kappas said that explaining the relationship between low glucose levels and
suggestibility, and teaching the client how to control his or her blood-sugar
level through diet, could reduce panic and sensory sensations caused by fear.
If the client has paranoid schizophrenia and reports hearing voices, it may be possible to use hypnosis to teach
the individual to control some of these thoughts, he said. “The behavior will
get rid of the voices for a long period of time, then they’ll come back and
stay there.” Ultimately, hypnosis and hypnotherapy cannot be employed as a cure of schizophrenia and the client must receive medical treatment.

access by California residents to complementary and alternative health care
practitioners who are not providing services that require medical training and
credentials. The purpose of a program of hypnotherapy is for vocational and
avocational self-improvement (Business and Professions Code 2908) and as
alternative or complimentary treatment to healing arts services licensed by the
state. A hypnotherapist is not a licensed physician or psychologist, and
hypnotherapy services are not licensed by the state of California. Services are
non-diagnostic and do not include the practice of medicine, neither should they
be considered as a substitute for licensed medical or psychological services or
procedures.

DeleteI am a schizophrenia when I was only on medication I got regullary pshycotic eposides. It is now more than 10 years with out any pshycotic episode and live a full live as a professional. This is due to hypnose by my dr.

DeleteI am happy because today i am a living testimony. i want all here to know how i was cured of my schizophrenia. i was diagnosed of schizophrenia some months back. And my health begins to deteriorate gradually. DeleteLooking for natural medicine to schizophrenia without any side effect Dr. Williams is the best because it has no side effect, After my son being diagnosed of schizophrenia in 2010, I have used numerous medicine for him with no improvement. ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. There are no side effects of hypnosis per se. It is a natural state of hyper-awareness that we all enter at least twice each day. The first time is for about 30 minutes after waking up in the morning; the second time is during the 30 minutes before drifting off to sleep at night. You can also experience environmental hypnosis, such as missing your street while you are driving because you are distracted, etc.
DeleteAs a certified hypnotherapist, I help people achieve their vocational (professional/work-related) and avocational (hobbies, relationships, etc.) self-improvement goals. As I explained in this blog, since schizophrenia is a medical condition it is out of my professional scope to work with clients to manage symptoms, etc. and they need to consult and work with a medical doctor.

VICTORY FROM 23YEARS SHIZOPHRENIA
ReplyDeleteTo everyone of you reading this, I pray to God you find breakthrough someday like I did. It’s not longer news that the stigma and discrimination attached to having a mental illness is harder to cope with than the illness itself. Yes, when I had Schizophrenia for 23years, there is never a time I was perceived as being a gentle caring person. I developed schizophrenia so early and the changes were difficult to measure. Horrible Voices, mood swings and delusions and hallucinations play out their effect on me so constantly that they became part of the essence of who I am. I felt something I could not publicly air, it’s nothing anyway; we all have overt or latent prejudices. I spent so much time in and out of psychiatric wards. It was not easy I must confess. I can't think of a time when I wasn't plagued with hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia. At times, I feel like the operator in my brain just doesn't get the message to the right people. It can be very confusing to have to deal with different people in my head. When I become fragmented in my thinking, I start to have my worst problems. I was hospitalized because of this illness many times, sometimes for as long as 3 to 5 months. I began wearing the same clothes each day and seldom bathed. I remember telling my colleagues at my work place that the world is coming to an end; we should take some months off so we can bring it back. Any contribution they have, it should be in writing because there are cameras everywhere. It was funny how no other person knows this except me, yet no one seems to look at things from my point. I was in this lake for years; I thought I was never going to live happy again because I scared almost everyone close to me away. To surmount the whole story, I came across a testimony of someone who had similar symptoms, she understood so well that she made me find reasons to get rid of it by using Herbal medicine, she also promise to refund my money if it doesn't work. Surprisingly, the amount I was charged isn't half the money I have spent on drugs most especially, Clozaril which I was told never to take a day off without. ReplyDeleteHey! I'm fairly sure I was lucky enough to have long-term hypnotherapy within a few weeks of developing schizophrenia. I didn't have visual or auditory hallucinations prior to it but what I'd describe as kinesthetic hallucinations (something akin to demonic possession) occurred for a matter of days. I was freed from this experience during the first session and haven't had it again since. My altered cognition gradually improved somewhat but mainly I was taught coping strategies and behavior organization techniques that today allow me to do a responsible job and care for myself when necessary. I'd not be diagnosed as schizophrenic today but when I realised what I had endured was the onset of active schizophrenia, all the pieces in the puzzle slotted into place. I'm so grateful I had long-term hypnotherapy though my symptoms are not cured per se but managed.

ReplyDeleteHi, there. I am Tom Neil and I wish to describe how life had been for my younger brother living with schizophrenia and how he had been permanently able to overcome this debilitating disease via a naturopathic, herbal method.
ReplyDeleteMaicon - my kid brother was twenty years old when he was brought to the emergency room by the campus police of the college from which he had been suspended several months ago. A professor had called and reported that he had walked into his classroom, accused him of taking his tuition money, and refused to leave.
Although he had much academic success as a teenager, his behavior had become increasingly odd during the past year. He quit seeing his friends and no longer seemed to care about his appearance or social pursuits. He began wearing the same clothes each day and seldom bathed. He lived with several family members but rarely spoke to any of them. When he did talk to them, he said he had found clues that his college was just a front for an organized crime operation. He had been suspended from college because of missing many classes. My sister said that she had often seen him mumbling quietly to himself and at times he seemed to be talking to people who were not there. He would emerge from my room and ask my family to be quiet even when they were not making any noise.
My father and sister told the staff that Maicon's great-grandmother had had a serious illness and had lived for 30 years in a state hospital, which they believed was a mental hospital. Our mother left the family when Maicon was very young. She has been out of touch with us, and they thought she might have been treated for mental health problems.
